Recycling

Once thought of as fad, recycling is now part of every day life in much of the world, and it is big business. The recycling industry employs more than 1.5 million people worldwide, and it annually processes over 600 million metric tons of commodities worth more than 160 billion US$. Recycling dramatically reduces the extraction of virgin materials such as iron, sand, trees, crude oil and water, and it reduces energy use and emissions. Recycled paper uses 65% less energy and produces 74% fewer air pollutants compared to compare to primary production.
