Arp's Catalog Of Peculiar Galaxies |

A good database for Arp objects (unusual galaxies) but doesn' have a lot of general information. More useful for the serious student of galactic astronomy. Not as good as the Cal Tech Arp site.

Messier Catalog - SEDS |

What an incredible site. Separate sections for galaxies, clusters and nebula. A huge database containing information, images and excellent links to offsite material. Also a great section on the history of the discovery of deep sky objects. Terms and objects are very well cross-linked within the database. Celestial coordinates listed for all objects. Also check out the collection of animations - some are quite good. Also includes sections on space technology and exploration, mars and lunar exploration, comets, SETI, stars and constellations - including a top rate guide to stars and star watching, and a massive but well organized gallery of space image photos with thumbnail images . Also has a very good review of astronomical software.

discoveryschool.com - Understanding the Universe |

Great site with a tour of the galaxy, gallery of famous stargazers, history of the universe and timeline (the universe in a day). Very attractively designed and illustrated site but lack of any interactivity is a wasted opportunity.

A very well organized and nicely designed site with excellent images and content. Has great database of galaxies with thumbnail images that bring up larger color images with very good supporting information. Organized into subsections with spiral, irregular and elliptical galleries, clusters, nebulae, supernovae. Objects are hot-linked to the NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database (NED). Lacks the linking to star chart coordinates that the SEDS Messier database has.
